Yes, You Can Get Something For Nothing!

First of all, if you are a new or expecting mom, congratulations and best wishes! This is a very special time for you, a time you will always cherish.

When I first found out that I was pregnant with my now 2 1/2 year-old twins, Shane and Katie, I felt really excited and blessed to be having two babies, and could hardly wait for their arrival. Also being the mother of a 3 year old at the time, I also realized that there could be a significant financial strain when a new child enters the family.

Being the expectant mother of twins, I was desperate to get some financial help for my family, especially after being taken aback by a recent article I read in a parenting magazine. This article plainly stated the staggering costs involved in raising a child. I was astonished to learn that the average parent will probably spend over $1,500 on premium disposable diapers by the time their child is potty-taught. As a mother expecting twins, I did some quick calculations in my head, multiplying those figures by two, took a deep breath, and realized that, yes, we really did need some extra help.

After carefully going over the family budget with my husband, and deciding on some general cut-backs, i.e., pay-TV, the TV guide, magazine subscriptions to those glossy-womens-magazines-that-I-just-loved-to-read, book clubs, and just about everything else that we could think of, we still came up short.

I subsequently sat down and tried to think of ways to get a little extra help for my family. I spent several hours surfing the Internet, reading through parenting magazines and parenting guides, visiting local department stores, as well as making several calls to different companies that offered baby products to find out what kind of help was out there for new and expecting moms.

Many hours and several phone calls later, I was truly surprised to find so many free products and samples that were available to new and expecting moms, simply by making a toll-free phone call, writing a simple letter to these companies, or by simply applying online at their Website, and with no obligation to buy anything! These companies were eager to respond to my requests for free samples and promotional products, and in a couple of weeks my mailbox was flooded with valuable free stuff!! I could hardly wait to see what my mailman brought me in the mail each day! I received free gift packs, parenting starter kits, coupons, parenting books and magazines, and tons of samples in the mail. I got samples of almost every brand of diaper and formula on the market, as well as received many free gift items for my babies, including baby bibs, bottles, rattles, and much, much more! (One year later I was still receiving free promotional items in the mail!)

Thanks to these truly generous companies, I have had the luxury of sampling brand name products for my babies freely, without having to spend my hard-earned money testing out product after product, trying to find the best ones for my babies. I feel much more prepared and can make informed choices on the types of products that my babies will use--and I have truly loved spoiling my babies with all of these great products!
